The police have arrested one individual linked to an incident in which three people impersonated Immigration officers to conduct a fake raid on accommodation for expatriate workers, resulting in theft.

The incident, which took place at a residence for expatriate workers, was reported to the police on Monday. A police spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that Mohamed Naveen, 44, from G. Beruge, K. Male’, has been apprehended under a court warrant.

According to the police, the three suspects gained entry to the accommodation by pretending to be Immigration officers and subsequently stole a mobile phone and MVR 9,000 from a Bangladeshi worker residing there.

The case remains under investigation, the spokesperson added. This development occurs amid an ongoing crackdown on illegal migration by the Maldives Immigration Service.
