Ministry of Tourism Updates Maldives’ Development List

The Ministry of Tourism has updated the Maldives’ tourism development list by removing three islands and adding six lagoons and one island.

According to the statement, this marks the third amendment to Announcement No. (IIJL)88-PS/88i2024i36, initially issued on 30th May 2024, which invited proposals for developing tourist facilities across various islands and lagoons.

The three islands removed from the list are:

• Lhaviyani Atoll Dhiffushi (with Maidhoo) – 15.17 + 20.99 hectares

• Thaa Atoll Kanimeedhooo – 10 hectares

• Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Kalhehutta – 7.61 hectares

Meanwhile, the newly added six lagoons are:

• Lagoon from Baa Atoll – 0.60 hectares

• Three lagoons from Kaafu Atoll – 0.20 hectares, 82 hectares, and 47 hectares, respectively

• Lagoon from Vaavu Atoll – 0.14 hectares

• Lagoon from Alifu Dhaalu Atoll – 0.35 hectares

In addition to the lagoons, one new island has been added to the list:

• Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Raaverinkolhihutta

The Ministry has clarified that the Lease Acquisition Cost (LAC) for the newly added lagoons and islands will be calculated following the initial announcement’s terms.

Interested parties are invited to submit proposals for the available islands and lagoons, which must include details such as the proposed size of the lagoon and a demarcated map. The application form and further information are available on the Ministry’s official website.
