New Head Office for ‘Uthuru’ Gateway Project Opens in Northern Maldives
The government has inaugurated the Head Office for the ‘Uthuru’ (North) Gateway Project in Uligan, Haa Alif Atoll.
The ‘Uthuru ISPS Gate’ was inaugurated yesterday by Uligan’s Retired Magistrate, Idhrees Adam, in a special ceremony. The new office will house personnel from the Maldives Immigration, Maldives Customs Service, and Maldives National Defence Force. It features a detention room and a security screening machine at the entrance.
The Uthuru ISPS Gate will offer a range of services, including bunkering, water and food supplies, crew exchange, docking services, garbage disposal, tug services, and maintenance.

Maldives Ports Limited CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim stated that fourteen different services will be provided through the Uthuru ISPS Gate. He expressed confidence in the staff’s ability to deliver these services and highlighted ongoing improvements to ensure competitiveness and customer satisfaction.
Bunkering services are scheduled to commence today. In March, STO signed a contract with the Netherlands-based company Vitol to establish the Maldives Economic Gateway (Ihavandhippolhu). STO CEO Ahmed Shimad noted that the new services are expected to transform northern Maldives into a significant marketplace, leveraging its strategic location.
