The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), based in Lhaviyani Felivaru, has launched a new initiative called Uddana, aimed at introducing school students to career opportunities within the fisheries industry.

The week-long programme is designed to spark interest in the sector, provide job training, and offer potential employment pathways at MIFCO’s facilities.

A total of 30 students from Lhaviyani Atoll Education Centre and Naifaru’s Madhrasathul Ifthithah are participating in the programme. The students were asked to select a career path of their choice and will receive hands-on training from MIFCO’s technical staff, gaining practical experience on the job.

The training covers a wide range of careers, including marine mechanics, auto mechanics, refrigeration mechanics, cashier roles, production, quality assurance, laboratory technician, administration, housing and laundry, as well as agriculture and farming.

MIFCO said that the programme is part of its broader efforts to provide school students with industry exposure and job opportunities, with plans to continue the initiative in the future.
