PGO Files Charges in Fatal Road Accident Involving Bangladeshi Nationals

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has formally charged a driver involved in a fatal road accident that occurred in Hulhumale’ in April, resulting in the death of a Bangladeshi man. Among the charges are reckless homicide, grievous bodily harm, and damage to private property.

The incident took place on 14 April, at 11:18 pm, near the Ooredoo building in Hulhumale’ Phase I. Mausoom Haleem, from K. Kaashidhoo, was driving a car that collided with a motorcycle carrying Bangladeshi nationals Masood Rana and Sheikh Shuaib.

Both Rana, who was driving the motorcycle, and Shuaib sustained severe injuries in the crash. Rana later succumbed to his injuries. According to the PGO, the collision occurred when Haleem turned onto the road without signalling, striking the motorcycle as it attempted to overtake the car. Tragically, after the initial impact, Haleem’s car ran over Rana and Shuaib before reversing with their bodies still trapped underneath.

The PGO yesterday confirmed that Mausoom Haleem faces three charges: reckless homicide in connection with Rana’s death, causing grievous bodily harm for the injuries to Shuaib, and damage to private property for hitting another vehicle parked nearby during the incident.
