Police Investigating Forgery Case Against Imam

Maldives Police Service is currently investigating allegations of forgery involving Abdul Jaleel Ismail, the imam of Salman Mosque in Malé.

A police spokesperson confirmed that a case was filed against Jaleel on 19th September, accusing him of forgery. In a separate incident, police confirmed that a confrontation involving Jaleel inside a shop had also been reported last week.

Jaleel has been accused by the family of businessman Hashim Mohamed, who died two years ago. They claim that Jaleel forged Hashim’s signatures to transfer control of the late businessman’s companies to himself.

Police said it is had also reopened an investigation into the circumstances of Hashim’s death following complaints from his family.

The police advised both parties to resolve any property disputes through the civil court.
As the Imam of Salman Mosque, Jaleel holds a deputy ministerial rank within the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
