Call for Societal Transformation Guided by Quranic Principles

In an address at the official ceremony marking the Day the Maldives Embraced Islam, held at Dharubaaruge, Muizzu called for collective efforts to transform Maldivian society based on the principles of the Quran and Sunnah. He urged the public to maintain steadfastness in their adherence to Islam, emphasising that the peaceful teachings of Islam were a significant factor in the conversion of the Maldivian people.

Reflecting on the day’s significance, Muizzu highlighted the moral virtues exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and reminded the audience of the importance of truthfulness and integrity in communication. First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed joined the President at the ceremony, which was attended by other state and government officials.

Muizzu presented medals, prizes, and certificates to those who had achieved their Hafiz certification.

Emphasising Intellectual Development for Nation-Building

In his remarks commemorating the Day the Maldives Embraced Islam, Muizzu stated that intellectual development is as vital as infrastructure in the context of nation-building. Speaking on Teacher’s Day, he acknowledged the crucial role educators play in shaping future generations and encouraged them to instil values of discipline and responsibility.

Muizzu urged all citizens, not just educators, to take responsibility in nurturing the nation’s future. He stressed that moral growth starts from within, referencing teachings from the Quran.

Reaffirming his commitment to intellectual development as a cornerstone of national progress, Muizzu reiterated his administration’s philosophy of advancing the nation’s people alongside its physical infrastructure.

Youth Empowerment Through Islamic Understanding

Muizzu highlighted the importance of empowering the nation’s youth through a profound understanding of Islam and Maldivian identity. He stressed that these concepts must resonate with young people and be integrated into their daily lives.

Muizzu emphasised the need for all young individuals, regardless of gender, to be equipped to advocate for the nation’s development. He outlined three key points regarding the representation of Muslims in the Quran, the existence of un-Islamic practices in contemporary Maldivian society, and the necessary alignment of actions to reform these issues. The Maldives observes the Day it embraced Islam annually on the second day of Rabi’ul Akhir.
