Aasaharaa Mosque and Funeral House Reopens After Major Renovation in Malé
The Aasaharaa Mosque and Funeral House in Malé City have reopened following major renovations.
The renovated facility was re-opened by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu yesterday, followed by Friday prayers led by Muizzu.
The renovation addresses long-standing issues of inadequate space and facilities, particularly for people with special needs, women and the numerous visitors to the cemetery.
The Aasaharaa Mosque has been transformed into a two-storey structure with full air-conditioning throughout, including the waiting area. Alongside it, the Funeral House now provides three spacious, purpose-built areas for preparing the deceased.
Other improvements include a ground-floor prayer area for those with limited mobility, separate toilets for people with special needs and children, and gender-segregated facilities for the public. The redesign also incorporates outdoor seating, enhanced waiting areas, a widened cemetery entrance and designated motorcycle parking.
These enhancements create a more accommodating and accessible environment for all users. Following the inauguration and Friday prayers, Muizzu toured the renovated facilities, including the mosque, funeral house and the new waiting areas.
