Interpol Yellow Notice Issued for Missing Thasleem Mohamed
The Maldives Police Service announced today that an Interpol yellow notice has been issued for Thasleem Mohamed, who has been missing since August.
The notice was published on September 12. Thasleem Mohamed, 43, of M. Asaree Handhaan, K. Male’, was last seen at a sandbank located south of Huvafen Fushi, a resort in K. Atoll, on August 29. He was reported missing to the police at approximately 1:20 PM on August 30.
In early September, police revealed they had applied for the Interpol yellow notice as part of their efforts to locate Thasleem. Concerns had been raised regarding the absence of this notice on Interpol’s official website, despite the announcement by the police several days prior. An Interpol yellow notice serves as a global alert designed to help locate missing persons.
In their statement to the media, the police explained that while all published Interpol notices are visible to member countries, some may not be publicly available on Interpol’s website.
According to police reports, Thasleem travelled to the sandbank with a group of 25 individuals, including two children, on a speedboat from the southern harbour of Male’ City between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM on August 29. The trip was organised to celebrate a birthday and an engagement, and it was noted that Thasleem was friends with the trip’s organisers. He had gone to assist with the backdrop, lighting, and electrical work.
Another group of 12 people was also present at the sandbank at the time. Thasleem was last seen between 7:45 AM and 9:00 AM on August 30. Those who were with him reported that he had expressed a desire to return to Male’. They realised he was missing when they went to inform him about the departure of the speedboat back to the capital, scheduled between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM that day. After checking with Thasleem’s family, who confirmed he had not returned on another boat, a search was initiated.
The police have conducted interviews with those who travelled with Thasleem, as well as the other group present at the sandbank. They stated that updates are being provided to Thasleem’s family as the investigation continues.
