Maldives Immigration authorities are actively identifying individuals working in the Maldives without proper documentation. Nine expatriates have been apprehended for questioning across ten locations in Hulhumalé.
The Immigration Department reported conducting raids at ten sites in the city yesterday as part of its crackdown on illegal immigrants.
According to the Immigration Department, since November 17th last year, 4,054 expatriates have been returned to their home countries following the proper documentation process. The department continues to intensify its operations, with regular inspections and raids being carried out to ensure compliance with immigration laws.
The crackdown comes as the Maldives grapples with the challenges posed by illegal immigration, which has been a longstanding issue affecting local communities and the labour market.
