Gov’t to Publish Final List of Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme Recipients

MV+ News Desk | October 13, 2024

The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has announced its intention to publish the final list of recipients for 4,000 housing units under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme by the end of this month.

This list was initially released by the previous administration as it neared the end of its term. While a total of 20,607 individuals applied for housing units under the scheme, the former government opted to allocate units to 13,000 eligible applicants. However, only the handover processes for 4,000 housing units were completed, leading to the publication of a list detailing these recipients. Following this announcement, more than 7,500 individuals raised concerns, and over 300 complaints were submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC undertook a detailed review of 4,048 application forms associated with the case. The investigation revealed that 59.6% of the forms were ineligible but had been classified as eligible by the housing ministry at the time. Additionally, 19.7% of the forms were deemed eligible but had other issues, while only 20.7% were found to be completely issue-free. In February, the ACC advised the current housing ministry to rectify the issues related to the initial list and to publish a revised version.

In relation to the forthcoming list, the housing ministry has confirmed that it will be made public before the end of the month, although it has not provided further details regarding any amendments. The ministry stated that the extended timeframe for issuing the new list was necessary to ensure that the evaluation process was thorough and fair, with the aim of allocating the housing units to the most deserving applicants.
