Muizzu Orders Ban on Vaping Products

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has directed the ban of vaping products in the Maldives, with key deadlines for enforcement.

In a statement on his official X account, President Muizzu announced that he had instructed relevant authorities to halt the importation of vaping products and their components by 15 November 2024. He also ordered the prohibition of the use, possession, manufacture, sale, advertising, and free distribution of these products from 15 December 2024.

The move follows growing concerns from parents, educators, and health professionals about the rising use of vaping. Last month, the Maldives Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Alliance called on the government to take action, citing significant health risks associated with vape and e-cigarette use.
