The National Drug Agency (NDA) and the Drug Court have discussed plans to pursue legal action against individuals who refuse court-ordered drug rehabilitation treatment.

The NDA stated that its board held discussions with the Drug Court to strengthen treatment mechanisms and enhance the work of the agency’s technical committee in collaboration with the court.

Meanwhile, the government has initiated the construction of rehabilitation centres in three areas of the Maldives. These centres will be located in Kaashidhoo in Kaafu Atoll, Velidhoo in Noonu Atoll, and Laamu Atoll.

The NDA has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Malaysian rehabilitation centre Solace Asia, officially designating it as an approved facility. Additionally, the agency has arranged for all residential treatment centres across the Maldives to be utilised as remand facilities for matters related to drug abuse.

Furthermore, the NDA announced that detoxification services are now available at Gaaf Alif Dhaandhoo Health Centre. The Drug Detoxification and Community Rehabilitation Centre in Fuvahmulah began offering methadone treatment in March.
