Two Arrested in G.A. Maamendhoo Cash Card Theft

Two individuals have been arrested for stealing a cash card from an elderly woman in G.A. Maamendhoo, which was then used to withdraw money from a Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM yesterday.

The police were alerted to the incident at approximately 20:13 last night. The suspects have been identified as Mohamed Shain Shameez, 22, from G.A. Villingili, and Hamdhoon Khaleel, 24, from L. Gan, Thundi/North Heaven. They were apprehended while travelling by speedboat from Maamendhoo to G.A. Villingili.

Authorities reported that they recovered MVR 23,000 of the MVR 25,000 that had been withdrawn from the ATM in Maamendhoo.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
