The 15th edition of the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) is set to take place tomorrow, Friday, 25th October 2024, at Central Park, Hulhumalé.

The event will begin early in the morning, with the Half Marathon and 10K races scheduled from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM. In the afternoon, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the 5K Open, School, and Office/Resort categories will be contested.

A highlight of this year’s event is the introduction of a brand-new Office/Resort Team Event, which will see the participation of over 90 teams. In total, 4,400 runners are expected to take part in the race.

As in previous years, the DMRR 2024 is dedicated to child protection, aligning with Dhiraagu’s corporate social responsibility programme. The race will provide a platform for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in this area to raise awareness and generate funds for their initiatives.

The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race remains the first and only international run held in the Maldives. It is listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running calendar and features a World Athletics-certified route.

The event will also include the DMRR Food Street, featuring women-owned small businesses in collaboration with the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Maldives (WEAM), along with home-based local food vendors. Endorsed NGOs will be present with stalls, and a Kids Zone will offer gaming stalls in partnership with Adventure Up Gaming.

Road closures will be in place during race hours, from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, to ensure the safety of participants.

In the evening, a showdown of the Dhiraagu Road Race and Dhiraagu Gamers Guild will take place from 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM, with walk-in registrations available for those interested in participating.

The games featured will be Rocket League and EAFC 25, and the competition will follow a “King of the Hill” tournament format, with cash prizes awarded to the winners of best-of-three matches.
