The Finance Minister, Moosa Zameer, has clarified that the government’s proposed austerity measures will not affect the salaries of technical staff or employees earning less than MVR 12,000 in state-owned enterprises.
Addressing the Public Accounts Committee in parliament today, Minister Zameer stated that salary reductions for technical staff could prompt them to leave for positions in other companies, which could significantly impact the operations of state-owned enterprises.
Last week, the government announced a 10 percent pay cut for political appointees and employees of state-owned enterprises, alongside a cap on take-home salaries for senior staff in state-owned entities, limited to MVR 90,000 per month.
