President Appoints New High Commissioner to India and Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Aishath Azeema as the High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the Republic of India and Ahmed Sareer as the Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Azeema, a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in Maldivian foreign service, began her career in 1988. Her diplomatic record includes serving as Ambassador to China from June 2019 to September 2023, in addition to previous roles as Deputy Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Within the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Azeema has held several senior roles, including Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary.
Sareer, who has been serving as Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brings a robust diplomatic background to his new post. Previously, he represented the Maldives as Asia Director at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia. His foreign service includes a notable term as Foreign Secretary during former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration. Prior to that, he served as the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, beginning in December 2012, while also holding the post of Ambassador to the United States.
Since joining the foreign service in 1986, Sareer has held a variety of positions in diplomatic missions, including High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Third Secretary at the Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka, and Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the UN. Within the Foreign Ministry, his roles have ranged from Assistant Under Secretary to Director General, contributing to his extensive career in foreign relations.
