Attorney General Ahmed Usham has announced plans to introduce legislation aimed at curbing online gambling and betting across the Maldives.
During a press conference held at the President’s Office today, Usham stated that the government had observed an increase in gambling activities, with indications of widespread participation across the country. He emphasised that addressing this issue would require amendments to existing laws to enforce stricter controls.
In July, the Communication Authority of Maldives started blocking websites that enable gambling under orders from the police. Soon after taking the current president assumed office last year, the authority also blocked websites containing pornographic material.
