More than 1,300 individuals have benefited from free medical check-ups as part of the Aasandha scheme, according to Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, CEO of the Male City Group of Hospitals.

The initiative, which aims to provide every citizen with a medical check-up twice a year, was launched in July this year. Haleem noted that in the first 14 weeks, a total of 1,336 check-ups have been conducted at various facilities, including Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Darumavantha Hospital, Hulhumale Hospital, and Villimale Hospital.

During an interview with the state broadcaster, Public Service Media (PSM), Haleem highlighted the long-term benefits of the scheme, stating, “These are things that will benefit the future, the children’s children.” He emphasized the importance of early detection in preventing the progression of diseases, noting that the scheme allows for medical issues to be identified before they escalate.

The government has made arrangements for free check-ups at all government healthcare hospitals, with a particular focus on cancer screenings for individuals over a specified age. With the rise of chronic illnesses, authorities are encouraging the public to take advantage of this initiative, which is part of the government’s commitment to promoting a healthier society while reducing medical expenses.

The scheme reflects ongoing efforts to facilitate early detection and treatment of major health concerns in the community.
