President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has launched the public consultation process for the 20-Year National Development Plan at a special event held on Wednesday morning at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE).
In his address, the President stressed the significance of widespread cooperation in both the planning and implementation phases of the initiative, aiming to benefit the country and future generations. He highlighted the potential for the nation to be recognised as fully developed by 2040, provided the plan is executed successfully.
Muizzu also emphasised the need for the development strategy to prioritise modern technology, the digital economy, and the resolution of key challenges facing the population.
Following his remarks, a discussion panel on the national development masterplan took place, involving a diverse group of participants, including parents, teachers, students, civil society representatives, individuals requiring medical assistance, and others from various sectors.
The process to create the 20-year development plan is now underway, with the government aiming for completion within a year. Furthermore, the government has announced plans to include a clause in the Constitution to provide the plan with legal authority.
Developing a long-term national development plan was a campaign pledge by President Dr. Muizzu.
