Maldives Launches 911 Emergency Hotline
The government has officially launched the 911 emergency hotline, a unified service designed to connect callers to various emergency responders.
Proposed by the Ministry of Health and approved by the Social Council at the President’s Office, work on the hotline began in October. The system was formally inaugurated at a ceremony by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, who described it as a “significant milestone” for the nation.
Minister Ihusaan highlighted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu recognised the importance of a national helpline early in his tenure, prioritising the establishment of a centralised service that could address diverse emergencies.
The 911 hotline, managed by the Maldives Police Service, will provide access to emergency services, including police assistance, ambulance dispatch, coastguard, and fire and rescue operations.
