MV+ Celebrates Local Community Champions at MV+ Community Impact Awards 2024
MV+ Media successfully concluded the MV+ Community Impact Awards 2024 on November 14th, honouring local NGOs for their exceptional contributions to community service in the Maldives. Now in its third edition, the biennial event has become a significant occasion to celebrate the impact of grassroots organisations on Maldivian society.
The event, held at JEN Maldives Malé by Shangri-La, was graced by Malé City Mayor Adam Azim as chief guest. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of voluntary work and described these community services as the driving force of the nation.

This year, the following NGOs were recognised for their outstanding work in diverse fields:
- Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC)
- Alzheimer’s Society of Maldives
- Miyaru Programme
- Naifaru Juvenile
- Southern Community Empowerment Association of Maldives
- Veshisaafu
- Women and Democracy
- Women Empowerment Association of Thinadhoo (WEAT)
- Hanimaadhoo Zuvaanunge Jamiyyaa
Panel Discussion on Residency Rights in the Maldives
As part of the event, MV+ hosted a timely panel discussion titled, “Residency Rights: Migration, Identity, and Belonging in the Maldives.” Moderated by journalist Hassan Moosa, the panel explored key issues including centralisation, internal migration, and the complex dynamics of identity and representation within the Maldives.
Panellists included advocate Nishwan Abbas, co-founder of Malé Rahvehinge Jamiyya Aishath Hassan, and Malé City Council member Mohamed Saif Fathih, who engaged with the audience in a Q&A session following their discussion.
Launch of MV+ Magazine
The event also marked the launch of the inaugural issue of MV+ Magazine, which was unveiled by chief guest Adam Azim and Chief Editor Nashama Mohamed. In her opening remarks, Nashama outlined MV+’s mission to address social issues and bring attention to under-reported stories that matter to Maldivians.
Nashama also announced that the next MV+ Community Impact Awards will be held in 2026, with plans to expand the awards to recognise not only NGOs but also individuals and companies making notable contributions to community development and welfare.
