Speaking at the event, Dr Shaheem emphasised President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to advancing Waqf initiatives to benefit various sectors. He highlighted the importance of the Nellaidhoo project, describing it as a key step in fostering Islamic values and practices.

Dr Shaheem also revealed plans to establish Waqf buildings on other islands, with Nellaidhoo chosen as the pilot location due to its council’s outstanding proposal.

The project will involve the development of ten outlets on the island, which will be leased for fishing-related activities. Profits generated from these facilities will be directed towards funding mosque development in Nellaidhoo. The local council noted that the initiative would also support broader social and religious activities in the community.

This move underscores the government’s broader strategy to leverage Waqf projects as a tool for economic and community development.
