Maldivian Arrested in Bangkok on Drug Trafficking Charges
A Maldivian national has been arrested in Bangkok on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking following the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics.
Thai media, citing police sources, reported that nearly three kilograms of mephedrone, a ‘Category 1’ narcotic under Thai law, were discovered concealed inside a protein supplement container. The package, sent from the United Kingdom via courier, was intercepted at a facility in the Thai capital.
According to reports, the suspect was detained while attempting to collect the package. Authorities have withheld the individual’s identity as investigations are ongoing, with efforts to trace others linked to the drug network.
Mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant, is classified as a highly restricted substance in Thailand due to its potential for abuse and severe health risks. Thai police have yet to release further details about the case.
