FDC to Offer Commercial Units in Hulhumale’ Phase II Development
Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has announced plans to release 127 commercial units located within the 32 towers currently under development in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
In a press briefing held on Thursday, an FDC official disclosed that the towers are distributed across six zones, with commercial spaces ranging from 580 to 6,200 square feet. These units will occupy the ground and first floors of the towers.
The official stated that the commercial units are being developed to ensure essential services are available before residents move in. The spaces are intended to accommodate retail outlets, clinics, community areas, restaurants, and offices.
FDC emphasised accessibility as a priority, ensuring that tower residents can reach retail outlets within two minutes and healthcare facilities within 10 minutes. Startups and new businesses will be prioritised in the allocation of these spaces, which will be sold at standard market rates.
The 32 towers, featuring a total of 4,000 housing units, are part of the Gedhoruveriya Scheme – a social housing initiative launched by the previous government to address housing shortages in the Greater Male’ area.
While recipients of the housing units were initially announced, the process was paused after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) flagged irregularities in the awarding criteria. The Housing Ministry under the current administration is reviewing the list, but delays have persisted, and no finalised list has been released.
FDC has assured that finishing works on all towers will be completed by the end of the year, while servicing works for the commercial units are ongoing.
