Gov’t Travel Expenditure Exceeds Budget Allocation by MVR 3 Million
The Ministry of Finance statistics have revealed that travel expenses have surpassed this year’s budget allocation by MVR 3 million, bringing the total expenditure to MVR 231 million.
According to the weekly fiscal development statistics, the budget had allocated MVR 228 million for travel expenses, with no additional funds provided through the supplementary budget. Within the allocation, MVR 69 million was designated for foreign travel, MVR 54 million for air travel, and MVR 45 million for sea travel.
The data highlights a 7% increase in travel expenditure compared to the same period last year, which saw MVR 216 million spent.
To date, the government has spent MVR 40 billion of the state budget, with the bulk of expenses—MVR 28 billion—allocated to salaries for government employees and operational costs. These categories account for 70% of the total expenditure.
Following the approval of the supplementary budget last month, the total national budget for the year is expected to rise to MVR 55 billion.
