The list of required supplies includes injections, urinary catheters, masks, and surgical equipment. According to the announcement, applications are limited to Maldivian-owned companies, partnerships, or private businesses registered in the Maldives.
Olhu Hiyaa spans over 5,000 square feet and was inaugurated on 10 November. While cats have yet to be relocated to the facility, it is equipped with several specialised areas, including a quarantine zone, a clinic, a laboratory, and a pharmacy stocked with essential medication for cats. Additionally, the facility features an area for exercise and play to promote the well-being of its feline residents.
The council has issued multiple announcements to recruit veterinary professionals and nurses for the facility and has sought suppliers for cat food.
The establishment of Olhu Hiyaa underscores the government’s commitment to providing shelter and care for stray cats, offering them protection from injuries and diseases, and ensuring a safe and clean environment for the feline population in Male’ City.
