The Maldives Meteorological Office has issued a warning about adverse weather conditions expected to affect the country over the coming days due to developing weather systems in the region.
A depression over the Bay of Bengal is predicted to intensify and move northwestward within the next 24 hours, heading towards Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Concurrently, a low-pressure area has formed over the far southeast of the Maldives. The combined effects of these systems are expected to bring strong winds and rough seas, starting Wednesday and lasting for five days.
Wind speeds are forecast to average between 15 to 25 miles per hour in the southern atolls and 13 to 23 miles per hour in the central and northern atolls. The Meteorological Office has warned that seas will be rough across all regions during this period.
Seafarers are strongly advised to exercise caution, and the public is urged to take appropriate measures to mitigate potential impacts and damage from the strong winds and rough seas.
