2.4 Million Tourists Expected in Maldives Next Year, Says Tourism Minister
According to the Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal, the Maldives has set goals to attract 2.4 million tourists next year. Speaking on PSM News “Week 52” programme, Faisal highlighted that the government’s budget for next year has set a target of 2.2 million visitors, but efforts are underway to exceed this figure.
“The major markets have made significant progress compared to previous years. Arrivals from countries like China, Germany, and Russia have increased notably,” Faisal said. He added that the tourism sector will focus on promoting the Maldives to new markets, which could further boost the number of visitors.
This year, the government aims to surpass 2 million tourist arrivals, setting a new record for the country. Faisal confirmed that the Maldives is on track to reach this goal, with the 2 million tourists expected to arrive on December 26. The minister also noted that, due to the high season, as many as 8,000 tourists are expected on certain days, which could help the Maldives exceed the 2 million mark.
As of this month, 1,797,028 tourists have visited the Maldives, a 9.2% increase compared to 1,646,327 during the same period last year. To reach the 2 million target, the country will need 353,673 visitors by the end of December.
