President Mohamed Muizzu has denied receiving a letter detailing allegations of corruption within the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), including claims that its former Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed made deals to further his interests without approval from the company’s governing board.

Speaking to journalists outside the President’s Office, Muizzu rejected the accusation that he ignored a letter sent five months ago by former HDC Chairman Ahmed Zuhoor, outlining instances of corruption within the state corporation.

“There is no truth in the allegation that I received a letter and it was not acted upon. I have not received that letter,” President Muizzu stated.

Zuhoor, who was appointed chairman of HDC in February and dismissed in May, reportedly sent a seven-page letter to the President before his removal. The document, which recently became public, alleged corrupt practices at HDC, including fraudulent land allocation.

President Muizzu’s denial raises further questions about how corruption allegations are handled at the highest levels of government.
