Four Arrested in Drug Raid at Hiyaa Flat Apartment
The Maldives Police Service arrested four individuals from a Hiyaa flat apartment yesterday following a raid conducted by officers from the Drug Enforcement Department.
According to the police, drugs and large sums of money were seized from the apartment, H9-20-11, which was searched under a court warrant. While police confirmed the confiscation, they did not disclose the exact quantity of drugs or the amount of money recovered.
The four individuals arrested in the operation were identified as Ibrahim Shareef, 40, of G. Semitone; Abdulla Hassan, 41, of Ocean Blue, G.Dh Kolamaafushi; Hussain Riyaz, 33, of Irudheymaage, H.Dh Neykurendhoo; and Abdulla Jameel, 32, of Valuthereyge, G.A Dhaandhoo.
Police further stated that materials used for packaging drugs, along with several mobile phones, were also discovered during the raid.
This is not the first time the same apartment has been linked to criminal activity. Last month, police rescued a man being held hostage in the same flat and arrested 12 individuals in connection with the incident.
Home Minister Ali Ihusan previously highlighted the issue of certain flats and locations becoming hotspots for recurring criminal activities, emphasising the need for stronger measures to address the issue.
