Maldivian Detained for Smuggling Heroin Worth MVR 109,000

Maldives Customs Service seized heroin worth MVR 109,000 in a local man’s luggage last Thursday.
MCS said they detained a local man, aged 39, at Velana International Airport, flying into the Maldives from Abu Dhabi, on drug smuggling allegations.

Upon testing, it was revealed the suspected drugs in his luggage were 109g of heroin, which would be worth up to MVR 109,000 in the drug market.
MCS said the detained man was handed over to the police for further investigation.
