Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) held its first Board Meeting of this year today in Alifu Alifu Atoll Ukulhas to honour its commitment to local tourism.

MMPRC’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree, Chairman Abdullah Ghiyas Riyaz, and the corporation’s board of directors led the meeting. According to MMPRC, the local community at Ukulhas was enthusiastic about hosting such a high-profile event, and the island’s local council warmly welcomed them.

The corporation’s representatives are scheduled to engage with the island’s council and key stakeholders regarding local tourism. They aim to discuss the challenges faced by the community and the opportunities available to Ukulhas, which has been recognised as a hub for local tourism.

“This meeting represents our commitment to supporting local tourism, a cornerstone of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision for the Maldives,” said Managing Director Shiuree. He emphasised the importance of collaboration with stakeholders at all levels to drive the country’s tourism industry forward.

In choosing to hold their first board meeting in Ukulhas this year, MMPRC is calling to attention their decision to stand in solidarity with the local tourism industry, they said.

“By choosing this island, the corporation not only highlights Ukulhas’s vital role in the sector but also reiterates its readiness to work closely with grassroots operators,” MMPRC said in their press release.

This strategic step is expected to strengthen further the Maldives’ position as a global tourism hotspot while fostering inclusive growth that benefits communities at the heart of the industry.
