The government has sent its damaged server to Singapore for data recovery following the Green Building fire, which also affected two other ministries.

Minister of Housing Dr. Abdulla Muththalib confirmed the development during a press conference at the President’s Office.

The minister explained that the fire occurred while a project to install backup servers at the Umar Zahir Office Building was nearing completion. The server sustained significant damage towards the final stages of this project. Due to the severity of the damage, the ministry has sought specialised recovery services in Singapore.

Reports indicate that only a limited number of documents survived the blaze. Former Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar previously emphasised the server’s critical role in storing essential ministry data, including employee records, project details, house registries, and architectural plans.

Despite this disruption, the government has assured the public that data related to the flat list and Gedhoruveriyaa scheme beneficiaries remain secure, as this information is safely stored in the cloud.
