President Muizzu Attends Roundtable Discussion with Estonia’s Digital Advisory Council

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu attended a roundtable discussion with the Estonian Digital Advisory Council yesterday.
In his first official international trip this year, to Estonia, upon the invitation of their President Dr. Alar Karis, President Muizzu has been attending many high level meetings. He arrived in Estonia on Monday.
In this roundtable discussion held at the PoCo Pop And Contemporary Art Museum in Tallin, accompanied by representatives from the Maldivian tech community, he shared the current administration’s vision for the digital Maldives and highlighted the need to empower Maldivians technologically, regardless of their location.

Members of the Estonian Digital Advisory Council emphasised the role of the private sector in building infrastructure and advancing key areas of digital development. According to the President’s Office, they also emphasised the importance of promoting STEM education.
The council assured they would help the Maldives in their efforts at digital transformation.
Estonia’s Minister of Health, Riina Sikkut, called President Muizzu a courtesy call yesterday. In a separate meeting, Jonatan Vseviov, the country’s Secretary General for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also called the President. During the meeting with Sikkut, advancements in digital healthcare, efficiency, and accessibility were discussed. President Muizzu expressed a commitment to using digital solutions to bridge gaps in the Maldives’ healthcare system, particularly for remote islands. President Muizzu discussed bilateral cooperation with Vseiov, battling climate change and how to navigate through the European Union’s market.
Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultation between the Maldives and Estonia was signed as well. The MoU was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, and Jonatan Vseviov, acting head of Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
