President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said if the people wish for it in the next four years, Raa Atoll Vaadhoo will converted to an island that only uses renewable energy.
Speaking at a meeting held at Vadhoo during his ongoing visit to Raa Atoll, President Muizzu said the government has set a target of converting one-third of the country’s energy consumption to renewable energy by 2028. He said that if the people of Vaadhoo and the government work together, they can ensure that all places use renewable energy. The government will extend all necessary support in this regard, he said.
“This island is one of the inhabited villages where all the energy in the entire village is dedicated to renewable energy, especially solar power. I would like to make it an island that uses [solar power],” he said.
The President assured that the government would ensure the many needs of the people of Vaadhoo were met. He said the government will start most of the presidential pledges this year, and the state budget has been prepared with the aim of starting work on most of these promises.
The President is on a three-day visit to the islands of Raa Atoll. The President’s Office said that during the visit, the President visited a number of islands in the atoll and met with the heads of the island councils, women’s development committees, and island institutions.
