Muizzu Inaugurates Passport Services in Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated passport services in Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru last night. 

Maldives Immigration said in a post on X that this is was part of the effort to carry out President Muizzu’s pledge to expand passport services in the nation.

They said passport applications submitted via IMUGA, Maldives Immigration’s online portal, can be picked up from Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru from today onwards.

The President departed for a three-day tour of Raa Atoll yesterday. He is to visit the local island councils, Atoll Council, and the Women Development Committees (WDC) of these islands and discuss with the local community. According to the President’s Office, he will visit ten islands of the atoll during this trip and will return to Male’ tomorrow.

RTL Service to be Launched in Raa Atoll, and 500 Housing Units to be Developed

Addressing the people of Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru, President Muizzu assured them that Raa Atoll would be the next destination for the Raajje Transport Link (RTL). 

In this regard, the President pledged to begin RTL ferry services in Raa Atoll before the end of June and in Baa Atoll before the end of July this year.

Assuring the people he plans to develop Ungoofaaru as an urban center, he said the plans will continue as soon as the weather permits. He also announced the development of another 500 housing units. 

Sewerage Network Issues to be Solved in Raa Atoll Angolhitheemu

While addressing the residents of Angolhitheem earlier yesterday, President Muizzu said the water and sewerage network on the island will be solved. In his speech, the President said that the contractor tasked with the project has already undertaken similar work in other islands of the atoll. He pledged to expedite and resolve the water and sewerage issues in the atoll.

He added that he had a ministerial delegation accompanying him on these trips to ensure that developmental projects could progress at an accelerated pace. This, he said, allowed councils and other institutions to have face-to-face meetings with Ministers, communicate and resolve issues, and enact prompt solutions. Existing government systems, he added, were prone to bureaucratic norms and hurdles, a feature common not just to Maldives but to all nations. However, these trips, the President added, would ensure project acceleration.
