Maldivian Custom Choppers, a bike enthusiast organisation that has represented the Maldives at the prestigious Burapa Bike Week in Thailand since 2013, has expressed frustration over the lack of financial and logistical support from the Maldivian government and private sector.
As preparations for the 2025 event, scheduled from 13–15 February, get underway, the NGO remains determined to showcase the Maldives’ culture and heritage at Asia’s largest bike show. The group will reprise its Maldives Village, a 5,000 sqft stall introduced in 2024 that drew over 250,000 visitors and reinforced their role as cultural ambassadors.
This year’s Maldives Village will feature an enhanced focus on Dhivehi heritage, including live Boduberu performances by the Habeys Boduberu Group and other cultural activities on the main stage during primetime slots.
In a statement, Maldivian Custom Choppers thanked their members and supporters for enabling them to consistently represent the country at such events. They highlighted the importance of the Thailand market, noting its growing potential for Maldivian tourism. Despite limited resources, the NGO has actively promoted the Maldives as a unique destination at international forums like Burapa Bike Week.
The organisation also expressed interest in collaborating with Maldivian businesses and government agencies to bolster the country’s presence at this prominent event. They extended an invitation to media outlets, racing enthusiasts, and supporters to join and celebrate the Maldives’ cultural showcase in Pattaya this February.
