The government has decided to take over The Gardens flat project in Hulhumalé from JAAH Investment Pvt Ltd following prolonged delays in its completion.
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has been instructed to assume control of the site after issuing multiple notices to the developer.
JAAH Investment, which is linked to Jausa Construction, was awarded the contract in 2017 to develop The Gardens flats. However, the project remains unfinished, raising concerns among buyers. In January 2025, the HDC issued a final notice to the company, warning of potential contract termination if the project was not completed within 45 days.
In a statement released on Sunday, the HDC confirmed that the agreement with JAAH Investment has been terminated due to non-compliance with the final notice. The company was formally notified of the contract termination on 16 March 2025 and ordered to hand over the site.
The decision aims to expedite the completion of the apartments and ensure their timely handover to buyers. The HDC has stated that buyers will be informed in the coming days about the next steps regarding the remaining work.
