The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has taken a decision to remove Chief Judicial Magistrate Al-Ustaz Ali Adam from his position as a judge. This move comes after an investigation conducted by the Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate’s Court into a case filed against a judge involved in a divorce proceeding.

Ali Adam had previously been suspended in May of the previous year, as per the findings of the JSC, in order to maintain the confidence in the judiciary.

According to a statement released by the JSC, Ali Adam was found to have engaged in inappropriate communication with a female involved in a divorce case. The communication involved phone calls and text messages, as well as discussions outside the bounds of the judiciary. The nature of these communications suggested an attempt to establish a personal relationship, and personal information about the couple was also shared.

Screenshots of these conversations were presented as evidence, and Ali Adam has admitted to their authenticity. The evidence indicated that the messages were sent with malicious intent, taking advantage of the vulnerable situation.

As a result of these findings, the Judicial Service Commission has deemed Ali Adam’s actions to be in violation of Article 32 of the Judiciary Act and the Code of Conduct for Judges. Consequently, the commission has recommended the parliament to initiate the process of removing Ali Adam from his judicial position.
