National Awards of Honour and Recognition to be Presented at Independence Day Ceremony

The President’s Office National Awards Committee has announced that four individuals and one organisation will receive the National Award of Honour, while 17 individuals and one organisation will receive the National Award of Recognition at this year’s Independence Day official ceremony.

The official Independence Day ceremony will take place at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE) on July 26, 2023, at 10 a.m. During the ceremony, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will deliver a national address to commemorate the occasion. 

The ceremony will also feature the presentation of several awards, including the National Award of Honour, the National Award of Recognition, the Special Medal for Memorising the Holy Quran, and the President’s Award for Special Achievement.

The National Awards Committee is responsible for vetting and selecting the recipients of the National Awards. Similarly, the Special Awards Committee is responsible for vetting and selecting the President’s Award for Special Achievement recipients.

This year, 15 individuals will receive medals for achieving the highest rank in an academic or skill training course, while two honourees will be awarded for attaining the highest level in an international exhibition or competition. 

Additionally, one individual will be recognised for their skill and innovation, and one organisation will be acknowledged for its contributions. This year, ten individuals will be recognised for their outstanding achievement in memorising the Holy Quran while attaining the highest grade.
