Couple Runs for President and Vice President for the First Time in the Maldives
The former Deputy Minister of Defence, Hassan Zameel, who recently resigned from his position, submitted his nomination papers today.

He has chosen his spouse, Mariyam Aleem, as his running mate. Adding a familial dimension to their campaign, their election agent is their son, Ahmed Mahran Zameel.
Zameel’s decision to vie for the presidency comes with distinct undertones, as he had publicly conveyed his anti-coalition stance.
The nominations period came to a close today at 2:00 pm, with a total of eight candidates having formally submitted their nomination forms.
