Completion of Several Projects Inaugurated in Laamu Atoll

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the completion of several projects in L. Isdhoo, L. Kalaidhoo, L. Maabaidhoo, L. Maavah, and L. Dhanbindhoo.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih attended ceremonies to inaugurate newly completed infrastructure on Isdhoo, Kalaidhoo, and Dhanbindhoo Islands in Laamu Atoll yesterday.

The projects included water supply networks on all three islands and an upgraded harbour on Isdhoo Island. These inaugurations were part of the President’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and services for residents of the atoll.

The harbour upgrading project on Isdhoo Island was completed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). As part of the harbour upgrade project, the harbour basin and channel were dredged, a 160-metre seawall was established, a 48-metre quay wall was developed, a 98-metre revetment was constructed, and other port-related works were carried out. These improvements are expected to enhance the functionality and safety of the harbour for residents and visitors.

S.M.C. Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. constructed the water supply networks on Isdhoo and Kalaidhoo Islands, while S.A.S. E. Construction Pvt. Ltd. constructed the water supply networks on Dhanbindhoo as part of the administration’s initiative to develop such networks on all inhabited islands. This initiative aims to significantly improve the quality of life for local communities by providing access to clean and reliable water sources.

Projects in Maabaidhoo and Maavah

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated newly completed infrastructure projects on Maabaidhoo and Maavah Islands in Laamu Atoll today.

During his ongoing visit to the atoll, President Solih presided over the opening of a new powerhouse and FENAKA office on Maabaidhoo Island and unveiled an upgraded harbour and water supply network on Maavah Island.

The newly developed powerhouse on Maabaidhoo Island boasts a power generation capacity of 980 kilowatts, signifying a substantial leap in delivering dependable and efficient power to the island. The FENAKA office, a state-of-the-art and capacious establishment, was also inaugurated. These inaugurations mark a significant milestone in the development of local infrastructure and the sustained progress of the community.

Altec Maldives Pvt. Ltd. developed the water supply network on Maavah Island, while the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) enhanced the harbour. The project encompassed significant improvements, including deepening the harbour basin, erecting a 284-metre breakwater, a 110-metre quay wall, and a 40-metre revetment, and executing other pertinent harbour enhancement initiatives.
