Candidates Cast Their Ballots in Second Round of Presidential Election 2023

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, representing the People’s National Congress (PNC) and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the presidential candidate of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have casted their votes in the second round of Presidential Election, this morning.

In the initial round of the presidential election held on September 9, Dr. Muizzu emerged as the frontrunner with 46.06% of the vote, while President Solih secured 39.05%, establishing themselves as the primary contenders for the runoff.

The polls officially opened at 8:00 am and are scheduled to remain accessible to voters until 5:00 pm.

According to the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM), 282,804 individuals are eligible to participate in the second round of presidential election. The Commission has made all necessary arrangements to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process.

Presidential elections are held every five years, allowing citizens to exercise their democratic right to choose their leader and shape the future of the nation.
