The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has intervened in the distribution process of flats intended for 4,000 individuals, a fraction of the 13,000 who qualified for the government’s Gedhoruveriya initiative.

The ACC’s action follows mounting complaints regarding the perceived unfairness in compiling and disclosing the permanent list of recipients.

Protests and public outcry outside the Planning Ministry ensued, with individuals asserting a lack of transparency and fairness in the allocation of points for the housing scheme.

The Planning Ministry had slated to unveil the permanent list and furnish documentation to the initial 4,000 beneficiaries before November.

The ACC has initiated an investigation into allegations that the publication of the first 4,000 recipients was done without due process.

Consequently, all activities concerning the signing of agreements and distribution of flats within the scheme have been temporarily suspended pending the resolution of the complaints.

The social housing project garnered applications from over 20,000 individuals seeking government-provided housing. However, the selection of 4,000 individuals irrespective of their living conditions has come under scrutiny.
