Eva’s Absence Prompts Hassan Afeef to Assume Session Chair in Parliament Today

In today’s parliamentary proceedings, Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Eva Abdulla, remains on leave, with Hassan Afeef assuming the chair for the session. 

The scheduled agenda for today’s session includes a no-confidence motion against the Speaker of the People’s Majlis Mohamed Nasheed. As Hassan Afeef took charge and initiated the proceedings, some members in the House were observed shouting.

Critically, The Democrats contended that the motion to remove Speaker Nasheed was initiated in contravention of the established rules of procedure.
