Member of Parliament and former Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed, has demanded the prosecution of Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer.

Nasheed claims that Ameer committed a crime by failing to present the 2024 state budget within the legal timeframe.

According to Nasheed, Ameer had been directed to present the budget on October 31. However, the Finance Minister opted not to attend the parliamentary session.

This decision followed the Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath’s opinion that the legislative body could not engage in any other proceedings until a decision was made on the no-confidence motion submitted against Nasheed at that time.

Nasheed contends that Ameer’s failure to adhere to the mandated timeline constitutes a criminal act, warranting legal action.
