The People’s National Congress (PNC), the ruling party in the Maldives, has set up a distinct office dedicated to the task of securing 10,000 new members for the party.
Up until this development, the party shared leadership with its coalition partner, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). The newly established office is currently operating from the ‘Dhiveheenge Jagaha’ in the Carnival area, initially set up for the presidential campaign.
Following his victory in the recent election under the PNC ticket, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed leadership of the party.
In his capacity as the party’s leader, Muizzu has called on members to actively contribute towards achieving the goal of securing 10,000 members. As a result, this has become the current priority for PNC.
The party’s origins trace back to concerns within the Progressive Party of Maldives, where former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, fearing a loss of control amid disagreements within the party, established PNC.
