Farhad Fikry Appointed as Acting Commissioner of Police
Farhad Fikry has been appointed as the Acting Commissioner of Police (ACP), succeeding Deputy Police Commissioner Abdul Mannan Yoosuf and Deputy Commissioner Ali Rasheed, who recently retired.
Home Minister Ali Ihsan informed local media that Assistant Commissioner Farhad would oversee the police department temporarily until a permanent police commissioner is appointed. Ihsan stated that Farhad’s appointment as acting commissioner was made in accordance with the recommendation of the police board.
Farhad, among the seven individuals dismissed by the Police Board on August 10, 2021, under the Police Service Act, was reinstated after a civil court ruled his dismissal was unjust.
Despite the Attorney General’s Office appealing the decision in the High Court during the previous government, a verdict has not been reached.
On the 17th of this month, the police commissioner during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration retired from the police service.
Abdul Mannaan Yoosuf has been serving as the acting commissioner since then, having been appointed Deputy Commissioner on November 19, 2018, during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s tenure. Mannan has dedicated 29 years of service to the police force.
