The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has released its Final Report detailing the constituency allocation for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections 2024.

The commission based its determination of the number of Members of Parliament on two fundamental principles. Firstly, for administrative constituencies with a registered population of up to 5,000, two members will be assigned.

Alternatively, constituencies with less than 5,000 people will have two members each. In cases where the registered population surpasses 5,000, one additional member will be allocated for every 5,000 individuals beyond the initial 5,000.

According to the ECM, a total of 93 seats will be contested in the 2024 parliamentary elections, marking an increase of six seats from the current 87-member parliament.

In addition to the existing constituencies, the Final Report introduces six additional constituencies:

  • Male’ City – 2 seats
  • Baa Atoll – 1 seat
  • Kaafu Atoll – 1 seat
  • Gaafu Alifu Atoll – 1 seat
  • Addu City – 1 seat

Notably, the ECM has yet to announce the date for the upcoming parliamentary election.
